Coffee Cafextli

Coffee history at the region

Origin of coffee at the
south mountains of State of Mexico
According to tradition, it is said that the first coffee plants in the region were brought by miners during the Viceroyalty era, since at that time it was the main economic activity in the region, thus promoting the introduction of products that were previously completely unknown in the region, including coffee, which was unknown until then as a plant and as a drink. Over the years and many tests, coffee as a plant was introduced into these remote regions at that time. Through trial and error and over several generations, tests were carried out to determine which region had the best climate and altitude conditions for its production, thus covering portions of the current states of Mexico, Guerrero and Michoacán. Amatepec turned out to be the best geographical area in the state of Mexico for the production of the coffee plant.

Today
Today, the southern part of the State of Mexico encompasses a large coffee-growing area, and the municipality of Amatepec in particular is the region within the state that has the ideal conditions for its production. In recent years, it has begun to gain importance as a coffee-growing area. This situation in previous years was due to the fact that throughout history, coffee production had been exclusively local, focused on self-consumption and local consumption, and only in rare cases regional. Only in recent years has this coffee-growing area gained special relevance and has begun to become increasingly known, gaining national relevance and becoming better known among consumers, unlike the coffee-growing areas traditionally known in Mexico.
